Why this guide exists
Morocco has a genuine, centuries-old wine culture, yet it sits in the shadow of better-known regions in France, Spain, and Italy. Its story — Roman beginnings, a colonial-era boom, a sharp decline, and a modern revival — is genuinely interesting, and its wines deserve more attention than they usually get. This guide aims to give Moroccan wine the careful, contextual treatment it deserves, covering its history, its regions, its producers, and the food and travel culture that surround it.
Our approach
We try to be useful and honest. Where a figure is a widely repeated estimate rather than an established fact, we say so. Wine data — production volumes, vineyard areas, founding dates — often varies between sources, and Morocco’s industry is not always thoroughly documented in English. Where sources disagree, we prefer careful language over false precision.
